Wedding Inspiration from San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel

I’ve always been a dreamer…wait, that sounds like the John Lennon song but it’s true. When it’s cold and snowy in Cleveland, I am dreaming of sun kissed beaches, margaritas and Bob Marley. When I was approached by Fairmont Hotels to dream up inspiration for their California hotels, it was an “aha” moment for me!  You mean I can dream up weddings for amazing hotels in amazing cities? YES please!

I picked San Francisco because I have spent quite a bit of time there and I was enthralled by the water (I live for seafood!) those hills and the city life all in one.  I just painted my home office a deep navy and it has been my muse for quite some time and it seemed the perfect starter for a chic, San Francisco wedding at the Fairmont Hotel atop the famous Nob Hill.

With the help of Blooms by Plantscaping, we created a table scape with luxury written all over it! As a nod to San Francisco, we added an image of the Golden Gate Bridge to the menu card and wedding cake and named the tables after iconic, city landmarks. Add a dash of navy sequin (okay, sequin overload) to mimic the water views and city chic was born.

When I design a wedding, I look for the unexpected and imagine it is my home away from home. I try to think outside of the box and add interest wherever possible. Rarely will I pick a napkin that matches the table linen. It’s so much more interesting to choose something unexpected. Consider picking up a different texture from your linen or a complimentary color.  Add your own signature touch with a floral bloom, coordinating stationary or fabulous dinnerware.

Our inspiration table layers different patterned plates to contrast with the sequin linen and our napkin ring and table number holders are nothing more than a strip of gold wire! Why go and buy a napkin ring when this is so easy to make and so very cool? And by golly, always remember romance.  This is the main reason you brought your guests to this day! Add tons of candlelight to bounce off of your floral centerpieces.  Reflective light is the most amazing accessory and let’s face it, we all look so good in it!

And always remember that you and your fiancé are unique! Your story is unlike anyone else’s. Create a wedding befitting of that same idea and go for it!
