I love Cleveland history! The Hyatt Arcade takes me back in time and I was thrilled to learn that I would be helping Cyrus and Natalie plan their October wedding there. The last wedding I planned at the Arcade was in July so the idea of the rich colors of fall were captivating. Natalie and Cy chose golds and burgundy to play off of the architecture. I was so impressed with the floral design of Studio Z. The chuppah had an asymmetrical design element that was just stunning. This was my first time coordinating a wedding that had restaurant-style meal service. What fun for the guests to order off of a menu! That was quite a feat for the hotel to pull off and they executed it seamlessly.

I had so many laughs planning with Natalie and Cyrus. I can't believe it has been an entire year! I wish them the very best in their second year of married life!

Metallic and Wine Maleficent Fairytale Styled Shoot in a Castle

Styled shoot designed by Allison Miller

Truth be told, I knew nothing about the fairy tale character, Maleficent,  that I chose for my styled shoot but felt like I would really love her once I got to know her. It was time to do some research. Thinking this was perfect mother/daughter bonding time, I grabbed my daughter and some popcorn to watch the movie and I was very moved by what I saw. I was right, I loved the character.
Like a lot of people, Maleficent was completely misunderstood.  She lived a reclusive life because she was not part of normal society. She had glorious wings that gave her amazing power and I wanted to make sure to represent that with the feathers in my centerpiece and a feather design painted on the wedding cake.  She was actually a fairy and the mood of the film felt very light at the beginning but quickly turned dark when her beautiful wings were taken from her. Of course, this is why I chose to go with the dark color scheme and stay true to the mood of the character. Maleficent represents a powerful woman. I wanted my design elements to all be very strong and bold.
I was fortunate enough to obtain the penthouse of the Tudor Arms Hotel for my shoot. It reminds me of a castle turret and was the perfect back drop for my tablescape. With the amazing help of Blooms, our florals and design elements really captured the vibe I was looking for. I wanted to show a lot of hand-hammered metals which is evident by our beautiful cake stand and the design detail of our plates. I wanted a feeling of longing with the draping of our fabrics. They flow onto the floor like the character’s own longing. Of course, candlelight must always be present to create a mood.
Our rich fabrics, glassware, dinnerware and flatware were all from the fabulous Event Source and I’m in love with our beautiful black high back chairs from All Occasion Rentals. Our photos were beautifully captured by the wonderful team of Marc and Tony Photography.

Our giveaway for this styled shoot is the hammered metal cake stand pictured. LIKE our picture of this styled shoot on @kirkbrides instagram to have a chance to win this beautiful cake stand!
